HRIC Statement on the Anniversary of Peng Lifa’s Heroic Protest on Sitong Bridge
October 13, 2022, a day that must be commemorated, goes down in history due to Peng Lifa's courageous protest at Sìtōngqiáo. A year ago, amidst the senseless "zero-COVID" policy and the 20th Communist Party Congress, tyranny prevailed, and people dared not speak out. Many felt trapped as if they were in prison in their own home, waiting for their fate.
Peng Lifa, on the Sìtōngqiáo Bridge, lit the beacon and boldly called for "removing the dictatorial national traitor Xi Jinping," voicing the sentiments of the people pushed to the brink. This ignited the White Paper Movement. Despite intense surveillance before CCP’s 20th Congress and plainclothes police surrounding him, he protested alone on Sìtōngqiáo Bridge for half an hour, even continuing to disseminate his manifesto and calls to action after his arrest.
Thus, he became a legendary symbol of Chinese people resisting tyranny in the era of digital totalitarianism. His voice spread overseas and within China, leading to a nationwide White Paper Movement that, for the first time in history under CCP control, forced the CCP to change its absurd "zero-COVID" policy through public opinion.
He was subsequently arrested, with no news to date, and his family has disappeared. We should pay attention to him, amplify his heroic act, and follow in his footsteps to resist tyranny and establish democracy.
2022年10月13日，是个必须纪念的日子，这一天因为彭立发在四通桥的英勇抗议而载入史册。一年前，在中共习政权疯狂推行“清零”政策，二十大自我加冕，暴政横行，人民敢怒不敢言，很多人画地为牢、坐以待毙的情况下，彭立发在四通桥上的点起烽烟，振臂高呼“罢免独裁国贼习近平”，发出了被逼在绝路上的民众的心声，点燃启动了“白纸运动”。在“二十大”前的严密监控下，警察便衣层层围堵中，他以一人之力在四通桥上发声抗议，坚持了半个小时，甚至在他被捕以后也能以各种方式发出他的政纲和呼召，因此他已经成为数字极权时代中国民众反抗暴政的传奇代表。正是因为他的声音在海外到海内蔓延传播，导致了最终全国范围的“白纸运动”，第一次用民意迫使中共改变了荒唐暴虐的“清零”政策，他因此被捕，至今没有消息，家人被监控。我们要关注他，传扬他的英勇壮举，更要像他一样行动起来，反抗暴政，建立民主。
