HRIC Statement on the Retirement of Rep. Mike Gallagher
Human Rights in China is saddened to learn that Representative Mike Gallagher, chair of the House Select Committee on the CCP, will not be running for re-election. Over the past year, we have been honored to work with him on numerous occasions, and we very much appreciate his efforts in galvanizing the counter-offense against CCP infiltration and transnational repression. He brought a formidable level of energy and initiative to this important area, and connected deeply with the community of freedom-loving Chinese activists and other groups across America. In particular, we admire and applaud his strength in building bipartisan consensus around specific and pressing issues regarding the CCP regime.
While we are disappointed that we will no longer be able to work with Rep. Gallagher in his capacity as Committee Chair, we appreciate all he has done and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Furthermore, we hope to continue working with the Select Committee and others within Congress to fight for human rights and push back against the CCP’s transnational repression.
