Human Rights in China strongly condemns the Hong Kong courts for sentencing 45 pro-democracy figures to prison for up to 10 years on charges of “subversion of state power.” The defendants include former lawmakers, activists, and grassroots community leaders who were targeted simply for participating in peaceful political activities and exercising their basic democratic rights.
